What in the world is SCORM?

Have you heard of SCORM learning activities? They are a great way to add interactive activities to your teaching and can usually be uploaded right into the web based platform your school is already using.


What?

SCORM is file type that allows people to share the really exciting activities and web based content that many teachers are using. SCORM is short for Sharable Content Object Reference Model. Think of it as a really impressive .zip file to help you out.


Where do I find one?

There a more lots of places on the internet to find SCORM activities. The most common is Teachers Pay Teachers. When you do your normal search, add "SCORM" to bring up these kinds of lessons. Eberle Media has several available in our store available here.


How do I use one?

SCORM activities are designed to be uploaded into a LMS (Learning Management Service) like Powerschool Learning, Blackboard, or Moodle. Each of these softwares has a slightly different process to use, but this is the basic idea:


1. Go to the LMS website for your class.

2. Upload the .zip file for the SCORM activity. Directions for the major providers are linked at the bottom of this article.

3. Select the correct settings for your SCORM activity. This will depend on your goals. Do you want it to be graded? Are you looking for completion or a score? Follow the prompts on your LMS to do this.

4. Publish the activity so your students can use it!
